For Janicza

We used to go to dance performances a whole lot more often than we do now. Mostly thanks to the still-simmering connection my wife had with the dance world of her youth and a little thanks to the general excitement of early years New York living. Sometimes ballet, but mostly modern. Once, walking by Mikhail Baryshnikov at BAM, I overheard him refer to ballerinas as bunheads. Another time, some budding ballerinas Jack and I met through a friend gave us free tickets to their NYCB performance. We fell asleep and left at intermission. My wife insists that with the right training I could have been a fine danseur noble.

More on the dance world here.
