The boy doesn't want to leave home. He wants to play with his cars. He wants yogurt and juice with greens in it. "But" I say,"we'll go on a train. We'll take the train to work." He looks up, his mouth is a little wider. "The train" he whispers. He puts his shoes on fast now.

Has anyone ever provided a satisfactory explanation as to why children are so fascinated by and enamored of trains? Same question for adults. I'm hoping the explanations are different.
