Yesterday the boy and I went to the
Lehigh Valley Floating Wood Barge Nautical Maritime Museum in Redhook, Brooklyn. They had a Rube Goldberg type contraption there which made a series of percussive sounds that entranced my son. We sat there for fifteen minutes as the three catalytic balls made their way through the squeaking contraption, slowly then very quickly depending on their location en route. We must have watched the thing go at least ten revolutions, my son running back and forth, choosing to follow the path of a different ball each time.

There is/was a great one in the Boston Museum of Art that my younger son (then 10'ish, now 24) was similarly captivated by. He now lives in Washington Hgts. and used to live in Bushwick. I'll have to tell him about the one in Brooklyn.
Thanks for the memory.
You're welcome, glad to be a reminder...
