Last week Jeremy met Cindy Crawford at a movie opening. Over a plate of late night pasta and red wine he told us how good she looks in person. Of course she does. I remember Cindy Crawford was the first woman I ever noticed. You know, noticed. It was a long time ago, before she was a super model. So long ago that I can't imagine the feelings were outright sexual in nature. I reckon I was a bit too young for that. It was when Cindy Crawford was still modeling in catalogs. Maybe JC Penny or Sears. I saw her often in whichever catalog it was and I even cut her picture out once, throwing it away hastily not long after, afraid my mother would catch me cutting out pictures of girls. So I guess there was some nascent sexuality in it, some understanding of the meaning of cutting out a picture of a pretty girl in a bra. A year or two later she was everywhere, in TV ads, in the news. My wife says the Cindy Crawford Vogue was the first Vogue she ever bought. I didn't know what Vogue was until college.
