Last night at a party I was speaking to a friend about my wife's studio. The friend asked how the studio was going. How was business? I started to reply that business was good, that my wife likes to keep her clientele a close knit group. Right in the middle of the thought however, we were interrupted by a well-wisher. When we got back to talking a minute later, my friend had moved on from, or forgotten about what I was saying and started to mention that she might like to come by and take classes from my wife. I, still mentally in the moment of where our conversation had left off, simultaneously restarted my previous sentence, to the effect that when each of us were getting to our periods, trailing off in that conversational way, I was saying small, select clientele at the very moment she was saying maybe I ought to come by and take a class. Momentarily oblivious to how the interchange might be construed, I carried on while in hindsight I recall a very puzzled look cross her face.
