Magda the Dowager

Tyra, Magda and Monica ca. 2004

It used to be that our dog was the neighborhood attention slut. Everyone knew who she was and would ask after her wellbeing if they caught us out without her. From the Puerto Rican liquor shop owner around the corner to Abdullah over at our regular coffee shop, we could tell that these people only favored us because of our association with the dog. A little less than a year ago, our dog retired to Southern California, seemingly leaving us at a loss. Fortunately, we replaced her with an apparently equally charismatic human child. We were out of town the last week and pedestrians and shop owners around the neighborhood would stop our friends and ask where our kid was at. I am glad we are still popular.
