Every couple of weeks the Bowery subway stop has wet paint signs posted all over. It is not such a large station and only one train line stops there so the constant repainting is mysterious. Its like they paint it as they paint the Golden Gate Bridge, starting at one end and painting it until they reach the other end and then turning around and starting back again. This goes on perpetually on that bridge. Lacking the same timeless charisma, the Bowery stop does, however, have a similar painting schedule.
There is a lean schizophrenic black man who wears a long, grey, sleeveless coat open, exposing his bare chest, mumbling to himself and performing karate moves at the air.
There are many Chinese children running around him while their Chinese mothers gossip near the ticket booth. The din is unmistakeably Chinese.
There is a small twentysomething year old white man who looks just like Sean Penn in "The Falcon and the Snowman."
There is a thirtysomething year old white woman who wears raver-style platform shoes.
There is a thirtysomething year old portly asian woman who smokes.

I think they're painting over the graffiti. I'll bet that spot gets a lot of it.
Not nearly enough.
Certainly not as much as you'd expect.
