It took me a while to figure out, but finally in the end I thought I had it. I went this way and that and it wasn't so much of a detour. That was the last time I went that way. I knew as I was driving. It made me a bit sad. I had finally figured it out, and that was it. It was done.

Once in a park cafe in Madrid I watched a Spanish man drink a cappuccino. With quick birdlike movements he used a tiny spoon to get at all the foam. For some reason this image stuck in my head. It was perfect somehow in that way one sees the world as a traveler. Then, last summer in the arctic I watched Dennis eat some yogurt from a little plastic container. He finished it with the same quick birdlike strokes. I made a comment and I think either Dennis was insecure about the way he ate or he thought I was a knucklehead. I'm pretty sure he thought I was a knucklehead. Pete eats yogurt in the morning. He always licks the lid.

Dear Susie,

Gone to the store to fetch some milk. There's other stuff here, maybe sift thru it and tell me what you think?

Love ya,
Ben
