Margaritas & Recent Reviews:

Obama the Nobel Winner

I don't really see why not. The whole point is to honor the person who has made some of the biggest strides toward peace. Obama's changing of American foreign policy and rhetoric is such a fundamentally positive shift from the hate filled war mongering of the last eight years and has addressed, at least in initiative, one of, if not the, biggest cultural conflicts in contemporary international politics. Whatever happens from here on out, this feat will remain one of the more significant stories in diplomacy for some time. Basically, has anyone done anything better this last year? Just as good, maybe, but better? So, why not?

$9.99 Miller High Life 12 Pack at the Korean Market

Incredible. Unprecedented. A total eye opener. The Champaign of Beers has never tasted so good.

Bloomberg Running for a Third Term

This is a toughy. I truly believe the guy has been one of New York's better mayors. And I am all for technocrats of a certain ilk. A smart motivated guy with an ego big enough for the job and a pragmatism that a big city demands. Plus, he spends all his own money so gets to operate outside of a political machine. I love that. But of course, it's loathsome when Latin American and Russian dictators try to change the technical rules to allow them to stay in power with a veneer of lawful credibility, so why should it be tolerated here? But the fact remains, Bloomberg did use the rules available to change the rules, and in the end he still has to put the whole caper up for a voter referendum either way, and what, was I going to vote for a Republican candidate anyhow? In the end I get the chance to vote either for or against him.

The Whole Chicken

So really, mad props goes to Diner Mark on teaching us the ropes, but Wifey and I have had a run of sock 'em rock 'em competing grand successes in the chicken world. Take a local organic free range whole chicken (dead and peeled) slather it in first rate olive oil, salt (kosher and sea, mixed) and a little blacky pepper, stuff a good half bar of butter in the cavity and cook the thing in the oven in a cast iron skillet at 450ish for 45 minutesish. Throw some white onion or some garlic about the pan if you wish, but don't go a god damn crazy. Unjustifiably delicious. Well, I guess it's really pretty justifiable.

WNYC Buys WQXR, Changes Programming and Moves Classical Station to a Weaker Signal

You gotta be kidding me. This sucks. It used to be that you'd get a choice half the time between two classical music stations dueling for the best stuff happening at night. I could switch back and forth depending on what annoying trumped up Napoleonic March Waltz was eating at my ear drums or what Screechy Experimental Minimalist Drone was hurting my head. Insult to injury since we now have to angle the radio just so to even get a taste of somewhat tamer fare. At least David Garland is still around so I guess it's not all that bad. Still, fuck off.

My Soccer Playing

I have got to learn how to calm down, receive the ball and control the thing. I mean really. I can do it. I also have to use my speed. This has just been atrocious.
