Diner Mark & Iris, South 6th Brooklyn

Mark looms large in certain circles. The New York local and organic food scene pays no small bit of attention to him. Recently he has been featured in the New York times for his contribution to a modern, thoughtful consideration of restauranteering. In my circle he looms just as large, if not a touch larger (my world is a little cozier, see.) He is the guy who scores all the goals. You put the ball to his feet at the goal mouth and generally he'll do that neat little roll flip number and the ball will nonchalantly touch the net. He is a blessing on the soccer field that way. In a far more important role however, he is the guy who provides the place to have a beer (and often enough buys the first round) after the game. Don't let his English school boy winking cynicism fool you, the slightest scratch at the veneer reveals a softy of epic proportions.
