William is an odd one. I won't mince words. You meet him and you think "whoah, this guy is a little odd." It's true. And then you get to know him. You learn that he grew up in a tight-knit Midwestern working class family, found himself on the cat-walks of Milan and in the pages of the fashion magazines by his early twenties and working as a set designer and carpenter in Brooklyn by his late twenties. Then you find out he can electrically rewire your apartment, loves college football and runs marathons. Then he comes over and, in a fit of pure energy and generosity, helps you put together a whole Ikea kitchen over the course of a weekend for beer and tacos. And then, after all that, you find out that he and his brother design and craft ornate beadwork fine art and jewelry for Haute Couture and exhibitions at contemporary art museums. Odd indeed.

the thing about seattle, is that you never risk meeting anyone like this, the only artists here are glass blowers, and they are all conflicted with how they feel about Chihuly-
He definitely falls into the "categorical reasons to stay in New York" category.
Hey did I ever tell you my mom dated Dale Chihuly in high school?
wow!
that is quite a feather in your mom's cap -
right?
Heh. Maybe...maybe...
