Ft. Tilden is a little bit of a secret spot. Easily bike-ride-able from the city, it offers relatively quiet, empty sand and the sporadic, vaguely fun body surfing session. The proximity to the city does mean some gnarly run-off water when it monsoons, otherwise it is the nicest non-surfing beach around here.
We have been trying to get out there to swim and get the boy in the salt water every weekend this summer. Mixed results but I like the effort.

looks like it beats the "pubic" beaches in brooklyn filled with used tampoon insesrts and broken glass.

Soapy T said it right. You look like you have hit a beach that isn't covered with hypodermic needles, which was my experience with east coast beachery.
