Two Folks, Just Talking.

Last night, on my way home from work, on the subway, while reading a magazine interview with Robert Altman, I over heard this conversation out of the corner of my ear:

Hot-Headed African American Male Youth talking loudly to his fawning friends "Oh yeah! Women! I mean they control the world right? ...blah blah blah... I mean we don't do nothing without their approval... blah blah blah..."

Hot-Headed African American Male Youth turning his loud attentions to an unfortunately situated 20-something Ineffectual White Hipster Male reading a magazine that looks a lot like the one I am reading: "Hey you, yeah, you, I mean who makes all the decisions when you go out at night? Seriously, who calls the shots???!!"

20-something Ineffectual White Hipster Male looks startled, deer caught in headlights and begins to stammer "Uh, well, um..."

Hot-Headed African American Male Youth chiding "Come on man! WHO MAKES YOUR DECISIONS!??!"

20-something Ineffectual White Hipster Male stops sputtering, looks as if a light bulb has just went on over his greasy head of hair, pauses, looks a little embarrassed and quietly says "...Um, well, I don't really want to talk to you."

Awkward silence.

Many fellow commuters lift their heads to look down the car at them sitting across from each other.

Awkward silence.

Hot-Headed African American Male Youth exclaims "Oh SHIT! Man! That's why I love New York! If someone doesn't want to talk to you, he doesn't have to...oh man...blah blah blah..I can respect this guy...blah blah blah...man, I just love New York!"

I love New York too.

You like New York, or just Manhattan and Brooklyn? Ever been to the Bronx?
